Job Description The Sr. SMT Engineer will be responsible for new product design and introduction for SMT processes, the process definition for PCBA fabrication, as well as documentation aspects for manufacturing work instructions, control plans, PFMEA and other engineering related documents will be part of the daily job responsibilities. You will train engineers, process technicians and SMT operators. You will be responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance programs of SMT equipment, provide input on new investments as well as project coordination are all important aspects of this job.
In addition to the above core functions, there are continuous improvement activities which are key to a successful performance in this role. Excellent technical and interpersonal skills are highly desired. You’ll get the opportunity to foster and contribute to an environment of innovation. An excellent analytical approach to solve systemic and day to day problems are a key elements of a successful performance in this position.
Skills & Requirements As a Sr. SMT Engineer, we would like to see three to five years’ experience with a background in Process, Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. A deep understanding of electronics assembly with emphasis on SMT process, understanding of thru-hole design, and manufacturability will make you successful in this role.
Desired areas of knowledge and/or experience Excellent SMT machine programming expertise and layout knowledge to efficiently implement new production introductions. Aegis is preferred for NPI. Detail SMT machine operation experience (MyData preferred). Including preventive and corrective maintenance. Expertise knowledge to feedback design engineers and CAD designers to improve designed with a strong focus on DFM aspects. PCBA stencil design expertise in order to provide input to stencil manufacturing houses and address any process related issues. SMT equipment programming proficiency to identify package types and correlation with machine parameters for optimal results. Statistical process control knowledge. Six sigma methodology preferred with emphasis on practical DOE application. Paste printing (DEK), and SPI process (Cyber). Good understanding of paste parameter correlation to printing defects and printing parameters Reflow, excellent understanding of reflow profiles, measurement tools and correlation to past and package profiles. AOI, (Yestech preferred). Extensive knowledge of Pre and post reflow AOI implementation. Excellent understanding soldering process and related specifications such as, IPC 610, 600 - J STD, 005A, IPC-7527, etc. J Standard 005A / IPC-7527 Conformal coating, thru hole, etc. Quality standards such as – ISO, AS, 16949, 1400 are a plus.
